Hyderabad: A nine-year-old Telugu girl's fantasy novel, “The Three Adventurers at Fungalore”, has become a bestseller on Amazon India.

Bangalore-based Kavya Kompella's 13,000-word book was placed in the same category as J.K Rowling's Harry Potter and the Percy Jackson series.

Kavya worked on the book during the lockdown. Apart from having written the novel herself, she has also designed illustrations and the book cover. “I was looking forward to my summer holidays but the virus ruined all my plans. I couldn't go out to play or even get out of the house. This pushed me to write, and it gradually evolved into this book.” she said.

Her book also featured in the 'Hot New Releases' category on Amazon USA, UK, and Germany in the children's adventure category.

Kavya is fourth-grader at Bangalore's Sishugriha School. Her novel is about the adventures of two children, Neel and Nina, and their tales of Fungalore. Kavya says she loves to read and write. Her favourite authors include Enid Blyton, Jeanne Birdsall, and Roopa Pai.

Just two weeks after its release, the book had already made its way into the top 10 bestsellers on Amazon India's children's adventures category.

Kavya's father Kashyap Kompella said they were keen on releasing only a Kindle version of the book. “Due to COVID-19, we decided to stick to just a digital version of the book. It is available on Amazon India for only Rs. 99,” he added.
