Vizag: Woman constable found dead at police quarters

Visakhapatnam: A woman police constable working at Nakkapalle police station in Vizag district was found dead at the police quarters located opposite to the station. The police suspect that her husband might have killed her. The incident took place late on Friday night.

Inspector of Police Vijay Kumar said S. Durga Bhavani and her husband S. Simhadri, natives of Paykaraopeta in Vizag district, were daily wage earners. They were married 12 years ago and have an 11-year-old daughter and six-year-old son. After marriage, Simhadri encouraged Bhavani to resume her studies and take up a decent job.

After graduation, she became a constable and got posted in Nakkapalle two years ago. After joining Nakkapalle station, she allegedly developed an illicit affair with a local youth. This led to frequent fights between the married couple and resulted in Simhadri allegedly killing Bhavani on Friday night.

The police said that when the police personnel reached the spot, Durga Bhavani was lying on the bed and some nylon ropes were hanging from the ceiling fan. They said that they found no evidence of Bhavani dying from hanging.

"We will get the results from the fingerprint tests and other reports on Sunday after which a case will be filed. We have also launched a search for Simhadri who has been absconding since Friday night. A formal complaint was filed by Bhavani's mother on the incident,'' the police said.
