Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, a man set himself on fire outside the Telangana BJP headquarters at Nampally, in protest against the arrest of party state president and Karimnagar MP, Bandi Sanjay.

The man, identified as Srinivas from Tammalanigudem of Yacharam mandal on the outskirts of the city, came to the party office and raised slogans against Sanjay's arrest. Passerbys began to shoot a video of him in which he was heard saying, "I will go to any extent for Sanjay anna and do anything for him." Then, Srinivas set himself on fire and tried to enter the BJP office. Bystanders stopped him and doused the flames. Srinivas was rushed to Osmania hospital where doctors said that he had suffered around 40 per cent of burns. He has been admitted to the burns ward for treatment.

Bandi Sanjay was arrested by the Siddipet police on 26 October, when he arrived in the town to protest cash seizures from the residences of M Raghunandan Rao, the BJP candidate in the bypoll for the Dubbaka Assembly constituency. He was detained and sent back to Karimnagar, citing law and order issues by the Siddipet police.
