GHMC elections: Rs 1.35 crore cash, Rs 10.79 lakh worth contraband seized in five days

After the announcement of election dates, police forces and other agencies including flying squads have seized around Rs 1.35 crore in Greater Hyderabad Municipal limits.

Hyderabad: After the announcement of election dates, police forces and other agencies including flying squads have seized around Rs 1.35 crore in Greater Hyderabad Municipal limits. The officials have also seized over Rs 10.79 lakh worth liquor and contraband.

The flying squad has seized Rs 34,81,800 while the police forces have seized Rs 1,01,05,650 illegal cash since November 18. Total 19 FIR's have been filed in connection with cash, liquor and contraband seizures. On November 22, the police seized around Rs 25,000 liquors in the city limits.

The election official has also impounded, deposited and cancelled a total 4,021 licensed arms. Police have also executed 223 non-bailable warrants against accused and criminals in the GHMC limits. Also, around 125 people have been bound down under section 107(Security for keeping the peace in other cases) and section 116(Inquiry as to the truth of information) of CrPC.

The election officials have also removed a total 20,766 banners, posters, boards, flexeis and flags. Out of the total, 6,009 banners are removed followed by 5,353 flexeis has been removed while 3,938 flags have been removed and 2743 posters have been removed.



On November 20, the West Zone Task Force seized Rs 20 lakh from a penthouse at Bedarwadi in Begum Bazar under Shahinayathgunj police station limits.

Police also arrested two people who have been identified as Nilesh Patel and Yogesh Ashok. Police handed over the seized money and accused to Shahitnayathgunj police station for further investigation.

On November 20, West Zone Task Force seized Rs 18 lakh from three people at Mallepally under Habeebnagar police station.
