War on drugs: Students among five arrested, 33 LSD bottles seized in Vizag

Visakhapatnam: Forget Ganja, youth in Vizag are getting hooked on LSD, a hallucinogen nicknamed 'acid'.Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) which was mostly a metropolitan phenomenon is now being used by addicts in tier-II cities like Vizag.

On Sunday, as many as 33 bottles of LSD were seized by a special team of Vizag city police. Five persons including engineering and BBA students were also arrested.The arrested youth were identified as Arvind Agarwal, 21, K Sahil, a 20-year-old B.Tech student, B Chandra Sekhar, 28, Michel Welcom, 22, and M Muralidhar, 20. Police are looking for Y Ashok who is on the run.

Commissioner of Police, Vizag, Manish Kumar Sinha said based on a tip-off about the drug trade in the city, a special team led by inspector of PM Palem Ravi Kumar was formed to nab the drug peddlers and suppliers.

Sinha said that Arvind Agarwal recently completed BBA from Bengaluru-based College. During his college days, he got an idea about LSD through his friends. After completing BBA, Arvind hatched a plan to earn easy money by drug peddling.

He approached K Sahil and M Muralidhar, who are his classmates in Vizag city. Arvind ordered LSD bottles online from abroad. He purchased each LSD bottle for Rs 400 and sold it to his classmates at Rs 1,000.

K Sahil and Muralidhar used to sell each LSD bottle to the students and youngsters at Rs 2,000. Based on the information, the police nabbed five persons and seized LSD bottles.

The city police chief said that they have identified LSD users in the city and will take the necessary steps to control the drug menace in the city.

LSD effects typically include altered thoughts, feelings, and others. The LSD is an extremely potent hallucinogen. Police said that they will continue their efforts to nab people involved in the drug trade.
