Surge in interstate travel after Unlock 4, Bangalore highway saw high traffic

Hyderabad: After the Unlock 4, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have witnessed the spike in demand for interstate travel.

Andhra Pradesh and Telangana trends (searches in the last 7 days on AbhiBus) indicated that the top 10 destinations that people searched from Hyderabad are all outside of Telangana.

Searches from Hyderabad in the past 7 days reveal that Bangalore, Vijayawada, Guntur, Visakhapatnam, Nellore, Ongole, Kurnool, Chennai, Anantapur and Rajahmundry are the top travel destinations. A whopping 100,000 people searched 10 destinations like Bangalore (26,000), Vijayawada (25,000), Guntur (9,000), Visakhapatnam(8,000) in last 7 days. The trend observes the resurrection of the COVID hit industry after months of falling demand.

"As the intercity transport opens up the demand for services outweighs the supply, Consumers are constantly enquiring for information and tickets for routes. RTCs have few routes plying while private operators have opened their routes, said Rohit Sharma, COO, Abhibus.com, a leading online ticketing aggregator representative.

With the recommendations coming from the Ministry of Home affairs about easing off interstate movement and more private operators starting their services, the industry sees a massive rebound in interstate travel.

"The pent-up demand for travel is soaring while the supply side is severely lacking. With social distancing becoming a new norm, travel is set to take off. Post the resumption of the interstate bus services, a spike in demand has been observed. But with limited routes laid by the 2 state RTCs, the supply is unable to address this growing demand," Rohit Sharma, COO, AbhiBus.
