1,010 kg ganja seized on ORR, two persons arrested

Hyderabad: The Rachkonda police seized 1,010 kg of ganja worth crores of rupees. The Special Operations Team (SOT) of LB Nagar Zone, along with Abdullapurmet police, nabbed two persons, Mohammed Ramzan and Shashikant Gowtham Rao, on the ORR while they were transporting the contraband from the agency area of Koraput district, Odisha to Uttar Pradesh.

Three others of the same gang, Mahadev, 45, belonging to Koraput district in Odisha and who supplies ganja, Vivek Singh, 40, a native of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh who purchases ganja and Imran, 42, of Haryana, who owns container lorries in which the contraband is transported are absconding.

Police said that Vivek Singh and Imran are used to transporting ganja from agency areas in AP and Odisha border to Uttar Pradesh by container lorries. The duo got partitioned the container lorries to have a secret cabin for transporting the contraband. The cabin is located very close to the driver’s cabin and is not be visible to anyone unless it is inspected very particularly. It also looks empty even when ganja is loaded in it.

Vivek Singh and Imran used to purchase ganja at Rs 3,000 a kg from Mahadev and sell it in Uttar Pradesh at Rs 9,000. Vivek Singh personally looks into the money transactions, along with Mahadev.

Police said that about a week ago, on the directions of Vivek Singh and Imran, Mohammed Ramzan and Gowtham Rao went to the agency area on AP-Odisha border to get a container lorry loaded with ganja by the supplier on October 1.

After loading 1,010 kg of ganja in 194 packets, each containing 5.1 – 5.5 kg, in the secret cabin, the duo drove it to Hyderabad and on October 5, the lorry was caught by the SOT LB Nagar team, at Abdullapurmet near the ORR in the limits of Abdullapurmet PS.

The police seized 1,010 kg ganja, container lorry, cash of Rs 4,000 and 2 mobile phones, all worth Rs 1,30,04,000 from their possession.
