26 passengers escape unhurt after bus caught fire on Hyderabad-Mumbai highway

Hyderabad: More than 26 passengers had a miraculous escape when their bus caught fire near Patancheru on the outskirts of Hyderabad on Friday morning.

The Hyderabad bound bus was coming from Mumbai. Driver of the bus Anil Reddy noticed sparks in the engine and stopped the bus immediately near Patancheru.

Showing presence of mind, the driver asked the passengers to alight before the bus caught fire. However, passengers could not salvage their luggage.

“Without any delay, I alerted the passengers. Within minutes, all passengers alighted from the vehicle, leaving behind their luggage. Soon after the bus caught fire”, Reddy said.

Fireteams immediately rushed to the spot and doused the flames. However, the incident on the busy Mumbai-Hyderabad National Highway caused a traffic jam during rush hour.

After around an hour, the situation was brought under control and traffic movement was restored on the stretch. It is suspected that a short circuit led to the fire.
