64-yr-old Hyd man sentenced to 5-yr RI for misbehaving with 4-yr-old girl

Hyderabad: The Additional Metropolitan Sessions Court, on September 1, sentenced P. Chandraiah, 64, to five-year rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 under Sections 9(m) and 10 of POCSO Act, in connection with a case registered in 2019.

On April 3, 2019, a complaint was registered at Begumpet police station by Chimati Suresh stating that Chandraiah, who was his neighbour, had sexually assaulted his four-year-old niece in his house.

Suresh, who was working as an Armed Reserve constable with the Hyderabad city police, had gone to his house after completing duty on April 3, 2019, at Rasoolpura, Begumpet. On reaching home, Suresh saw Chandraiah misbehaving with his four-year-old niece on the staircase.

Upon seeing Suresh, Chandraiah fled the place. Based on a complaint from Suresh, Begumpet police registered a complaint against Chandraiah. Later, it was found that Chandraiah got himself admitted at Gandhi Hospital on the same day he committed the offence, complaining of injury on the chest. He was taking treatment as an outpatient and was later, arrested by Begumpet police.

Chandraiah was found guilty for the offence and was sentenced to five-year rigorous imprisonment by the Special Court.
