AP govt saves Rs 628 crore through reverse tendering

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh government claimed that they saved Rs 628 crore by issuing reverse tendering for hydel power plant and main concrete works worth Rs 4,987 crore in Polavaram project. Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Ltd (MEIL) bagged the project’s headworks and the earth-cum-rockfill dam’s hydropower station tender with a proposal of 12.6 per cent less than the previous contractor did.

The MEIL bid for the works for just Rs 4,358 crore and it is the only company that took part in the bidding. As soon as the court permits, Megha Engineering will able to start work at a rapid pace and complete it within the stipulated period.

The YSRCP government had earlier cancelled the Polavaram contracts alleging corruption by the TDP government. CM Jagan Mohan Reddy’s government called for reverse tenders for Polavaram Project headworks and hydropower station. Recently, former AP CM Chandrababu Naidu criticised Jagan’s decision of reverse tendering claiming that this process is to help his close aides.
