AP: Two more succumb to COVID-19; positive cases rise to 473

Vijayawada: With two more persons dying of COVID-19 in Andhra Pradesh, the death toll in the State has reached nine. The deceased are a 55-year-old man from Vijayawada city of Krishna district and a 56-year-old from Nellore city, who died on April 12 and 13th respectively. With the State recording 34 new cases, the number of COVID-19 cases has reached 473 so far.

The officials of the medical and family welfare department said that the 55-year-old patient, from Vijayawada, had visited Jalandhar in Punjab. A diabetic and asthma patient, he was admitted to the Government General Hospital in Vijayawada on April 5. He breathed his last on April 12 though he was kept on ventilator.

The 56-year-old patient from Nellore was admitted to the Apollo Hospital in Nellore for fever, vomiting and a few other symptoms and was later shifted to the Government Hospital in Nellore on April 3rd. He was then shifted to Apollo Hospital in Chennai on April 6th, where he succumbed on April 13th.

Cases of COVID-19 in Andhra Pradesh have been increasing in the past one week.

Kurnool district is fast becoming the hotbed of the pandemic recording the highest number of cases in the State at 91. The number of cases in Nellore currently stand at 56, Krishna at 44, Prakasam at 42, Kadapa at 31 and Chittoor and West Godavari at 23 each. While Visakhapatnam has 20 cases, Anantapur and East Godavari have recorded 17 cases each.

So far 14 COVID-19 patients have recovered in the State. AP currently has 450 active COVID-19 positive cases. The two north coastal Andhra districts of Srikakulam and Vizianagaram have remained unaffected so far.
