Case against watchman for brutal attack on a dog in Domalguda

Hyderabad: Chikkadpally police on Friday registered an FIR against a watchman for allegedly brutalizing a street dog.

Watchman Sattibabu, who works in street No. 7 of Domalguda, attacked the dog on his head, with a wooden stick. When it fell unconscious, and thinking that the dog was dead, Sattibabu tied a rope to its leg and dragged it all the way to a barren land, said neighbourhood witnesses.

Later, animal activist Panneeru Teja came to know about the event and went to the place to rescue the dog. Teja said, “When we asked the watchman, why he had brutally beaten up the dog, he said the animal had tried to bite him, but we could not see any scratch or teeth marks on him. Moreover the dog was sterilized a few months back, which means it may not bite.”

Teja filed a complaint with Chikkadpally police, along with a resident who witnessed the whole thing. The police than visited the locality and witnessed the dog’s condition.

The dog is now admitted in a private hospital and is being treated. Teja said the dog’s condition seems to be serious and its chances of survival are less. If it survives the dog will be shifted to Government veterinary hospital.

The police have booked a case against the watchman, under Section 11(A)-Prevention of Cruelty towards Animals Act (for beating or kicking an animal so as to subject it to unnecessary pain).

Earlier this month in a gated community in Tolichowki, stray cats were harassed. The community people said that the cats were defecating in their lawns and to get rid of them they harassed the cats. A notice was sent by Hyderabad police to the community.
