Tragedy struck them when Srinivas tried to reverse the car while he was on a phone call. The man, however, did not notice the bank of the canal and drove backwards, which led them straight into the waters.

Passersbys alerted the regional police and a rescue operation was launched. Heavy cranes were pressed in to fish out the floating car. However, it was too late. Srinivas and Swaroopa could not bale out.
