Hyderabad: The officials of the directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Hyderabad zone, seized 1,427 kg of ganja worth Rs. 3.56 crore here.

The officials intercepted a goods carriage at the Panthangi toll plaza along the Vijaywada-Hyderabad highway on 20 August. The vehicle was carrying used worn-out tyres.

However, upon inspection, the officials found an ingeniously designed cavity between the cargo area and the driver’s cabin where several bags of ganja was concealed. The 1,427 kg of ganja was reportedly loaded in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh and was to be delivered to Uttar Pradesh.

The contraband and the vehicle was seized and one person arrested under the provisions of the NDPS Act.
