Five Sudanese caught at RGIA trying to smuggle 78.5 kg sandalwood

Hyderabad: Five Sudanese nationals were intercepted at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on 31 July while trying to smuggle sandalwood. They were part of a group that was travelling to Khartoum, Sudan, in a special relief flight.

The officers of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) seized 78.5 kgs of sandalwood from them and handed the seized goods and the five persons to the Customs department for further investigation.

The CISF officers noticed some suspicious items in their luggage during a routine security check. While the passengers denied that they were carrying anything illegal, the officers searched their baggage and found sandalwood. They had procured the sandalwood during their stay in the city and were planning to sell it in Sudan at a higher price, sources said
