Hyderabad cops suspended after video of taking bribe from driver goes viral

Hyderabad: A video of two police constables asking an auto trolley driver for a bribe near Mojamzahi market in Hyderabad's Afzalgunj went viral on various social media platforms forcing the police to initiate damage-control measures on 10 May.

Hyderabad city police commissioner Anjani Kumar issued orders suspending the two constables Pancha Mukesh and Suresh of Blue Colts-2 team of Afzalgunj police station. The commissioner said it was an act of grave misconduct. He also issued a charge memo to the inspector of the Afzalgunj police station for poor supervision and control of the subordinates. “We are committed to public service,” he added.

The video shows the two constables who intercepted an auto trolley questioning the driver. The cops probably asked him about the purpose of his travel and if he was carrying valid documents. The driver can be seen requesting the cops about something. One of the cops forcefully takes the mobile phone from the driver’s pocket and later we can see the driver give cash to the cops after which they let him go.

This incident has strengthened the rumours that police officers on field duty are taking bribes from vehicles and even those carrying valid permissions documents.
