Major fire breaks out in Nallamala forest, 15 acres reduced to ashes

Hyderabad: A major fire broke out at Nallamala forest between Vatavalipally to Domalapenta, on Friday evening. Over 15 acres of forest areas reduced to ashes. The cause of the fire is unknown however the forest official ascertain that it would have been ‘man-made’.

Speaking to NewsMeter- District Forest officer M. Joji said, “ It took 6 hours to bring the fire under control, the most affected area is between Vatavalipally to Domalapenta. Tourist could have caused the fire’.

When asked about damage to wild life, the officer said, “ The green cover has been affected, no wild life damage reported. Timely intervention by the forest department and the locals brought the fire under control’.

The forest spreading across 6 acres, last reported damaged caused due to fire was in 2015.
