Hyderabad: In what has put the Telangana government on edge, four deaths and 169 new COVID cases were reported in a span of 24 hours, beginning 5 PM May 28th. Going by the official health bulletin, this is the highest recorded in the state, ever since the outbreak of Coronavirus.

Of the total 169, the highest cases (82) are from Hyderabad, followed by Ranga Reddy (14). It is pertinent to mention that the city has witnessed a spike in the number of COVID cases and alarming deaths rate, ever since certain relaxations were implemented.

For the second consecutive day, four deaths were recorded. A 53-year-old male with pre-existing carcinoma Thyroid, died of COVID seven days after he was admitted to Gandhi Hospital. Another, two males 59 and 62 years of age, suffering from multiple myeloma and Hemiplegia, respectively, succumbed to COVID on Friday. Among the four deceased, is a 60-year-old female who was admitted with hypertension.

In a statement released by the government, highlighted as ‘important’, the official said,” In the past few days, there has been a surge of new cases in GHMC area. It is once again reiterated that all the non-pharmacological preventive measures have to be implemented strictly. Vigorous contact tracing, strict quarantine measures (home and government) Risk Assessment, judiciously assessing the area of containment, strict perimeter control have to be taken up. At this juncture, risk communication plays a major role in behaviour change, thereby mitigating the further spread of infection”.

A breakup of the bulletin revealed that Telangana’s total number of positive cases, stand at 2008. However, the matter is debatable since the government, on various occasions, put out different figures.

Taking this into consideration, the total positive cases ( including cured and active) are 2425, while death toll climbed to 71. Currently, 973 patients are admitted to the Gandhi Hospital and 1381 have been cured and discharged.
