Ten students injured as wall collapses in Nalgonda school

Hyderabad: Another incident showing official apathy on the maintenance of Government school building has occurred in Telangana. Atleast ten students of a Government primary school in Nalgonda district received injuries, when the compound wall collapsed on Tuesday. As the incident didn't happen during school hours, many children escaped unhurt.

According to reports, the Government primary school is located at Wangamarthy Village in Shali Gouraram Mandal of Nalgonda district. Close to 100 students are studying in the school as per the official school records.

On Tuesday afternoon, during the break time, the children were playing in the compound. Some of them were playing near the compound wall at the main entrance of the school. Meanwhile, a portion of the wall came down crumbling. The children who were playing near the wall got trapped in the debris, while a few of them could escape from getting trapped in it.

The school staff and villagers rushed to the rescue of the children and pulled them out. The injured students were rushed to nearby Government hospitals and they are said to be out of danger.

While the negligence of the contractor who has constructed the compound wall is being blamed for the incident, Nalgonda district administration has reportedly started a probe into the incident. The education department has been asked to submit a detailed report on the incident at the earliest, told sources. As the children were injured, police are also likely to register a case. In addition to the education department, the police will also probe into the incident. Further inquiries are underway.
