Tirupati MLA Bhumana Karunakar Reddy tested COVID positive

Tirupati MLA Bhumana Karunakar Reddy of YSR Congress Party tested positive for COVID-19. The legislator has been admitted to Sri Venkateswara Ramnarain Ruia Government General Hospital in Tirupati for treatment.

To recall, The MLA has been heading the Andhra Pradesh Covid Coordinating Committee. Appointed as the Chairman, he stepped forward to dismiss rumours revolving around infection caused by burying COVID-19 victims' bodies.

Following panic among general public, The COVID coordinating committee recently held an awareness program at Govinda Dam on Karakambadi Road. The program was primary to dismiss the rumours and help people understand that infection is not spread by participating in the funeral of a COVID person. In order to set an example,the MLA cremated the corpses of a COVID infected.

On 26th August, the MLA tested COVID positive and joined his son Abhinaya Reddy who is already undergoing treatment at the hospital for COVID-19. However the source of the virus is not unknown.

Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday reported 9,927 new Covid-19 cases, taking the cumulative caseload to 3,71,639. The death toll increased to 3,460 as 92 more Covid confirmed patients died of the disease. As many as 9,419 patients were declared cured. There are currently 89,932 active cases with about 2,78,247 lakh cumulative recoveries and 3,460 deaths, reflecting an overall recovery rate of about 75 percent
