Urmila Matondkar meets Shiv Sena leader; Triggers political speculation

Mumbai : Actor turned Politician Urmila Matondkar, who quit Congress a week ago, was seen meeting with Shiv Sena leader and close aide of Uddhav Thackeray, Milind Narvekar. This has now triggered political speculations that she may join Shiv Sena ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections.

The Rangeela Girl clarified on Tuesday that she is not joining any political party. Putting the speculations to rest, she said in a statement, "I am not joining any other party so it's a kind request to the media to kindly not share whatever they hear. It is unfair towards me, to say the least, and also not appropriate towards any party."

Matondkar's statement comes in a wake of a report which alleged that she recently held a meeting with the close aide and personal assistant of Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray. She ruled out the speculations saying that her meeting with Milind Narvekar was nothing more than a courtesy meeting.

Matondkar joined the Congress party in March ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and also contested the election from Mumbai North seat. However, she was defeated by the BJP's sitting MP Gopal Shetty. She announced her resignation from the Congress Party on September 10 2019, alleging that the party was using her as a tool for petty inhouse politics.

The Assembly elections of Maharashtra are due to take place the next month.
