Hyderabad: TPCC chief Uttam Kumar Reddy’s wife Padmavathi Reddy will contest from Huzurnagar constituency in the forthcoming by-election. Telangana PCC Chief Uttam Kumar Reddy on Sunday announced this decision.

Uttam Kumar Reddy and Padmavathi Reddy contested from Huzurnagar and Kodada respectively in Assembly election held in December 2018. However, Ms Padmavathi Reddy lost in the polls.

Later, Mr Uttamkumar Reddy won as MP from Nalgonda Lok Sabha constituency. Subsequently, Mr Reddy resigned as Huzurnagar MLA. This led to a by-election for Huzurnagar Assembly constituency.

The Telangana Congress Committee has finalized the candidate for the by-election before the notification by the Election Commission.

Congress party won 19 seats in the Telangana Assembly elections held in December 2018. Later in Lok Sabha elections in 2019, Congress won three MP seats out of 17. Almost 13 Congress MLAs joined the ruling TRS party.

Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy along with Congress MLAs has been protesting against the merger of CLP into the TRS party. The grand old party has also filed a case against the CLP merger in High Court in last April.

The TRS party murdered democracy in the state. The High Court should suo moto take notice of our demand. We expect that the High Court will order against the defectors. Each defected MLA received crores of rupees from the TRS party.

Telangana Assembly has 119 seats. TRS won 88 Assembly seats in December 2018. Five MLAs in March joined the pink party. The number of defectors to TRS continued later.
