Hyderabad: Gulabo Sitabo's release on Amazon Prime has set the tone for the upcoming films. Ever since the lockdown was announced, a debate on how the cinema industry, which is wholly dependent on box office revenues was doing rounds on the internet. Well, the announcement of Gulabo Sitabo by Shoojit Sircar threw some light on the new path.

Following suit, makers of Vidya Balan's Shakuntala Devi and Keerthy Suresh's Penguin have announced the release of these films on Amazon Prime.

Vidya Balan took to her social media to tell her beloved fans that she is delighted to announce about the release of Shakuntala Devi and also thrilled to entertain everyone in these unprecedented times.

Shakuntala is based on the life of mathematician Shakuntala Devi, who is fondly known as "Human-computer" for her ability to solve complex calculations in a jiffy.

The movie is directed by Anu Menon and bankrolled by Sony Pictures Network Productions and Vikram Malhotra. Sanya Malhotra is going to be seen playing the role of Shakuntala's daughter. The movie was supposed to hit the theatres on 5th of May but COVID 19 had other plans for us. he date of release is yet to be announced.

Meanwhile, Keerthy Suresh too announced that she can't wait to share the experience of a special journey with the movie Pengiun, with all her fans. Penguin is produced by Karthik Subbaraju's Stone Bench Films and, written and directed by Eashvar Karthic. The movie is releasing in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam on June 19. She had mentioned about the movie with #PenguinonPrime.

Karthik Subbaraju announced about the film in October 2019 during Keerthy's birthday. The poster includes a silhouette of pregnant Keerthy Suresh amidst some mountains and fog. “She is aggressive, yet gentle. She is majestic, yet modest. She is #Penguin," he tweeted.

Well, now her fans can watch the film in the comfort of their home without much ado. OTT platforms are going to be the new normal and these announcements are testaments for it.
