Vijayawada fire: Modi, Amit Shah extend support to Jagan

Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on 9 August, assured his support to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S Jagan Mohan Reddy following a fire at a hotel that had been converted into a COVID-19 isolation facility in Vijayawada.

Atleast ten patients were feared killed when a fire broke out at a private COVID-19 care centre, Swarna Palace Hotel, on Eluru Road in Vijayawada in the early hours of Sunday. Around 25 patients were under treatement when the incident occurred. Short circuit in the office of the Hotel resulted in the fire, said Director General of Police D.Gautam Sawang.

Prime minister spoke to Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy over the phone and enquired about the accident. He extended all the possible help and assured support to the families of the victims. “Anguished by the fire at a COVID Centre in Vijayawada. My thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured recover as soon as possible. Discussed the prevailing situation with AP CM YSR Jagan Mohan reddy Ji and assured all possible support.”

President Ramnath Kovind and Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu also took to Twitter to express their condolences. “Struck with grief after hearing the tragic news about COVID-19 care centre in Vijayawada where an accidental fire caused the loss of lives. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families. I wish speedy recovery for the injured,” tweeted the President.

Mr. Naidu wrote, “Extremely anguished by the loss of lives in a COVID care centre at Vijayawada following a fire mishap. My heartfelt condolences to bereaved families & prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured.”

In another tweet, Union Home minister Amit Shah said, “Deeply anguished by the news of tragic fire accident at a COVID-19 facility in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. Centre assures all possible support to the state govt. My condolences are with the affected families in this time of grief. Praying for the speedy recovery of those injured.”

Governor of Andhra Pradesh Sri Biswa Bhusan Harichandan expressed deep anguish and grief over the loss of lives due to the unfortunate fire accident which occurred in the Swarna Palace Hotel, Vijayawada. He directed the administration to provide best possible treatment facilities to injured persons. Governor also stressed on the need for generating awareness regarding adherence to fire safety norms in all buildings to avoid any such untoward incident in the future
