Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu defeated sixth seed Tomoka Miyazaki of Japan 21-15, 8-21, 21-17 on Wednesday to move into the round of 16 at the China Open.

The win comes just a week after Sindhu’s straight-game loss to Korea’s Sim Yu Jin at the Japan Open, marking her fifth first-round exit of the year.
Sindhu’s 2024 campaign has seen a string of early exits, including the Indonesia Open, Singapore Open, Malaysia Masters, Asian Championships, Swiss Open, All England Open, and Indonesia Masters.
Sindhu won a silver medal at Rio 2016 and bronze at Tokyo 2020.
Despite the setbacks, the former world champion is showing resilience, with her China Open victory signaling a potential turning point in her season.
