Amul clears ‘fake product’ controversy, calls all its products genuine

Hyderabad: A video of a man comparing two Amul butter packets has gone viral on social media. The person speaking on the video claims that there is a potential Amul scam going on. He compares the butter packets and says one is a duplicate product.

This post has raised a lot of eyebrows and questions about fake Amul products.

NewsMeter found the post to be false as Amul itself has clarified the whole controversy and assured people that the products compared in the viral video are genuine Amul products.

Amul has issued a clarification note taking it to their verified Twitter handle Amul.Coop. The clarification note reads, “This is for your kind information that fake messages being forwarded on WhatsApp and social media platforms regarding duplicate Amul butter in China. We wish to inform you, both packets of Amul butter shown in the video are genuine and manufactured in India by Amul. As per advisory of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, all new dairy products must show the veg logo on the front of the pack.”

It added, “The video clipping shows comparison between the earlier pack and new pack of Amul butter and has been used to create misinformation and spread fear and concern among consumers. A legal notice has been issued to the individuals of Srinagar who are involved in creating this fake news story. We request you to kindly share this message with your friends and family and sensitize them.”

The packaging changes every now and then. It should be noted that it is always good to be vigilant when it comes to food products but judging and spreading misinformation about the product's authenticity just by looking at the packaging without any credible source of information or proof may lead you to face legal issues.
