Edible oil shortage: V&E registers 300 cases against erring traders in Andhra

Andhra Pradesh: Several traders and supermarkets in Andhra Pradesh are selling Palmolein and other edible oils at high prices. According to the Vigilance and Enforcement (V&E) officials, manufacturing units in the state are exploiting supply chain issues to increase edible oil prices.

V&E officials launched a major drive and inspected 521 shops, Supermarkets, and Manufacturing Units. Hoarders were booked under section 6A of the EC Act.

In the last one week, 38 cases were registered for excess stock limits. Around 264 cases were registered under Legal Metrology Act 2009 and 34 cases under Food Safety and Standards Act. 2006. The teams also collected oil samples for testing. Sources said many oil traders have increased the prices of cold-pressed oil, manufactured in their units, by Rs 30 per liter. Groundnut oil is now sold at Rs 330 per liter.
