1.3 tonnes of red sanders logs seized in Chittoor

Chittoor: The Chittoor sub-division police arrested two persons and seized 122 logs of red sanders weighing 1.3 tonnes and a truck on 6 March. The accused were identified as P. Balaji from Renigunta and G.R Mahesh from Maharashtra.

The additional SP (operations), K. Krishnarjuna Rao, said acting on a tip-off the police conducted raids. DSP K. Eswar Reddy and his team conducted vehicular checks at the Gollamadugu check post on Gudipala road and became suspicious of a truck. When the police tried to intercept the vehicle, the driver tried to escape.

The police chased the vehicle and when they caught up with the truck found red sanders logs inside. “Red sanders logs were being transported under plastic water tankers. We seized 122 logs during the raids,” said Mr Krishnarjuna Rao.

Balaji from Renigunta in Chittoor district and G.R Mahesh from Uppalavadi in Nagpur were arrested for illegal transportation of red sanders, he said. A case was registered at the Gudipala police station.
