18 days after being kidnapped, police rescue newborn, arrest kidnappers

Hyderabad: Bibinagar police of the Rachakonda Commissionerate rescued a 15-month-old kidnapped girl after eighteen days. The police also arrested kidnapper-couple Pittala Madhavi and Raju Gujjar. The alleged perpetrators got the child's mother, Jyoti, heavily drunk in their home in Bibinagar and then fled with the child.

The kidnappers took excellent care of the child providing her food and milk every day, the police said. The couple were planning to move out of Telangana with the child.

Madhavi and Raju separated from their partners and had been living together for around 10 years, making a living by selling scrap. On the night of September 2, while they were roaming in LB Nagar, they noticed Jyoti with the child. As Madhavi was a neighbour of Jyoti's parents in the past, she got close to Jyoti and her child. Sensing an opportunity, they took the mother and child to their room at Bibinagar on September 5 and made Jyoti consume alcohol.

While the couple drank in a limit, Jyoti was made to consume in excess, due to which she lost consciousness. The next day, after gaining awareness, Jyoti didn't find the couple or her child. She started searching for them and approached the police two days later.

Police enquired with Madhavi's family and collected clues on their movements. Based on a tip, they caught the couple and rescued the child on Monday. Inquiries revealed that the couple were moving around in different parts of the city, along with the child. As they had no children, they wanted to bring up the child as their own.

To avoid being caught, they were waiting for an opportunity to escape to another state, where they would not be identified and start a new life. Meanwhile, the child was handed over to her parents after medical tests stated that she was healthy.
