19-year-old found dead in Warangal on her birthday; Police suspect gang rape

Warangal: Birthday turns fatal for a young woman in Warangal, as she was found brutally murdered in the city. Police suspect that a group of people raped the 19-year-old. The incident has sent shock waves in the town that had already witnessed the brutal rape of a newborn child in June 2019.

The victim, a resident of Deendayal Nagar, in the city was celebrating her birthday on Wednesday. In the morning, she left home to a nearby temple to offer puja but did not return home. Her parents tried calling her more than an hour after she left for the temple. However, her mobile was found switched off.

Worried, they rushed to the temple to find her, but it was in vain. The parents then inquired about her with her friends and all familiar locations. Around 10 pm, the police received information concerning a girl’s body lying near a function hall at Hunter Road in the city.

The victim’s parents rushed to the spot and identified her. Meanwhile, senior police officials, clues teams, and dog squad also arrived at the place. They have registered a case and started the probe.

Initial inquiries revealed that the girl was murdered, but police are also suspecting that a group of people raped her. Police believe that the accused abducted the girl from near the temple and took her to a secluded place, where they raped and killed her. Police suspect the role of a person known to the victim behind the heinous crime.
