23 journalists covering Telangana secretariat test positive for COVID-19

Hyderabad: Twenty-three journalists from Hyderabad, who were covering the Telangana secretariat, tested positive for COVID-19 on 13 June. With this, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the state has now crossed 4,900.

On 7 June, a 36-year-old TV journalist had died of COVID-19 in the state, while on 30 May, three cameramen and one senior journalist had tested positive for the novel corona virus. All four were asymptomatic, according to health officials.

Meanwhile, Telangana reported 253 cases on 13 June, the highest single-day spike in the number of COVID-19 cases.

Further, the state also saw eight new deaths on Saturday, taking the death toll in the state to 182. Three days ago, the state had reported over 200 new cases in a single day. However, the number of cases on Saturday surpassed the previous numbers.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the state is now 4,737, out of which 4,288 are local cases while 449 patients are migrants, deportees, or foreign returnees. The number of active cases in the state now stands at 2,203.
