35-year-old kills brother over family dispute in Amberpet

Hyderabad: Enraged over his alcoholic brother harassing him, 35-year-old Mohd Shahid killed his brother, Munawar, at Amberpet in Hyderabad in the early hours of Tuesday. Shahid, who was in an inebriated state at the time of the incident, strangulated his brother and killed him on the spot, the police said.

Shahid and Munawar live at Chinnareddy Nagar at Amberpet. More than a decade ago, Munawar fell in love with one Kalpana. Though they belonged to different religions, they got married and have two children. However, as he was addicted to alcohol and harassed her continuously, Kalpana, along with the children, abandoned him and started living separately.

Since then, Munawar was of the opinion that his wife had left him due to harassment from his elder brother, Shahid, and started troubling him. Often, he would come home heavily drunk and pick up quarrels about his estranged wife and children.

On Monday too, Munawar came home drunk and slept off. Shahid, who also came home drunk, woke up Munawar and picked up an argument with him over the same issue.

As Munawar was drowsy, he tried to avoid the quarrel and go back to sleep but Shahid, who was angry, strangulated Munawar with a plastic rope in the house and killed him.

Police registered a murder case and detained Shahid for further investigation.
