Hyderabad: The police of Jogulamba Gadwal district in Telangana seized liquor on the Telangana, Andhra Pradesh inter-state border on Wednesday morning. Kranti Kumar from Nandyal check post area of Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh, was nabbed for allegedly smuggling liquor. The seized liquor, included 12 bottles of Signature brand, 20 bottles of 100 Pipers and 5 bottles of Royal Green whiskey.

Based on credible information on inter-state liquor smuggling through the border, police teams checked vehicles at a road bridge connecting Ryalampadu village in the district to Kurnool district on the other side of the border and intercepted a vehicle.

It was found that as liquor prices in Andhra Pradesh have been increased heavily, Kranti Kumar had reached Telangana, purchased liquor at a less price and was smuggling the bottles to his place. Police also seized his Renault vehicle AP21BW6641 and registered a case under the Excise Act and started investigation.

As there is a huge difference in liquor prices between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, many people of the border areas in Andhra Pradesh are sneaking into Telangana through different routes, including forests, purchasing it in Telangana (at a lower price) and smuggling the same to their places illegally.
