5 Nepali nationals who robbed Nacharam man arrested

Hyderabad: The sleuths of Rachakonda police arrested five Nepali nationals on 26 October for robbing a house in Nacharam. They seized nine tulas of gold and cash worth Rs. 1,49,876 from them.

The arrested persons have been identified as Maya, Rajesh Chabilal Soni, Hemprasad, Nirmal Saud, and Visna Sunar. Another four accused, Arjun Kasera, Ratan Bisht, Jagath Shahi, and Gobind Bahadur, are absconding.

On 19 October, Chithapulusu Pradeep Kumar, a resident of HMT Nagar in Nacharam, filed a complaint claiming that his servants had stolen 18 tulas of gold, 40 tulas of silver, and Rs. 10 lakh cash from his home.

According to Mr Kumar, he had appointed a Nepali couple — Arjun Bahadur Kasera and Maya Manju — as domestic help 15 days ago. On 19 October, his wife and daughter went to Medak while he and his son were at work. Only his 70-year-old mother was at home. That night he returned home and found his mother unconscious. He saw that all the cupboards and lockers were broken and his servants were nowhere to be found. Their phones were also switched off. Later, he found that gold and silver ornaments and cash had been stolen.

On 22 October, the Rachkonda police apprehended Maya at Awadh bus stand in Lucknow while she was boarding a bus to Nepal. They seized gold ornaments and cash from her. Later, she was produced at a local court and brought to Hyderabad on transit remand. Based on her confessions, the police apprehended four more accused persons from West Maredpally on 25 October.

According to the police, the accused persons had come to India looking for work. They were employed as labourers and domestic help in various places in India. Mr Kumar hired Maya and Arjun with the help of a mediator. “According to their plan, Arjun and Maya settled in the house and gained the confidence of the house owner. In the meantime, Arjun arranged for Lorazepam sleeping pills from Rajesh and Hemprasad and waited for a good time to execute their plan,” said a police officer.

On 19 October, when the family was out and only the aged mother was home, Arjun called Ratan and Jagath. Maya mixed the sleeping pills in tea and offered it to Lalithamma who fell unconscious after she drank the tea. The four then robbed the house and fled to Lucknow. Before boarding a bus to Nagpur, Arjun met Rajesh, Nirmal, Hemprasad, and Visna and divided the money amongst them. Meanwhile, Rajesh and others stayed in Hyderabad to commit further offences, said the police.

Based on Mr Kumar’s complainant, a case was registered and an investigation was launched. The Rachakonda police formed 15 teams consisting of 45 officers who were sent to Mumbai, Pune, Jhansi, Lucknow, and Nepal borders. The arrested persons were produced before the judge on Monday.
