5-year-old killed in wall collapse during Pattana Pragathi works in Warangal

Warangal: A five-year-old girl, D. Princy, was killed and her eight-year-old brother Shashi severely injured after a wall collapsed and crushed them while they were playing in the veranda of their home at Subhash Nagar of Hanamkonda on 1 March.

The incident occurred when an earthmover knocked down the wall while it was cleaning open drains for the state government’s Pattana Pragathi programme. The man who was operating the heavy machinery, K. Satya Prakash, was allegedly speaking on his phone while working when he hit the wall. He fled the spot immediately. Local people, with the help of the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) disaster management team, rescued the children and rushed them to the MGM hospital. The children's family is from Govindaraopet in Mulugu district. They moved to Hanamkonda where the father, D. Sambashiva Rao, works as a carpenter.

Government chief whip Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar visited the family members at the MGM hospital morgue and consoled the bereaved family. He said Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and IT minister KTR were informed about the incident and the state government will give Rs. 5 lakh as ex gratia to the family. “We will take care of the family and the government will bear the expenses of the injured child’s education till Class X. The mother of the victim, Dhanalakshmi, will be given an outsourcing job in the municipal department,” he said.
