58 fresh cases take tally to 1,583 in AP

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh reported 58 fresh Covid-19 cases on Sunday taking the tally of the pandemic in the state to 1,583.

However, the death rate is under control as no new death has been reported in the last five days in the state. So far, Covid-19 claimed 33 lives in AP.

Of the 58 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours in the state, 30 were from Kurnool district and 11 from Guntur district, eight from Krishna district and seven from Anantapur district. Nellore and Chittoor districts reported one case each.

Vizianagaram district in north Andhra Pradesh continued to remain the only corona-free district in the state with zero cases.

With 466 cases, Kurnool district still tops the list followed by Guntur at 319 cases and Krishna district at 266 cases.

The four districts -- Kurnool, Kadapa, Chittoor and Anantapur in Rayalaseema region reported 708 cases (44.72 per cent) in the state.

In the last 24 hours, a total of 6,534 tests were conducted in the state of which 58 turned positive. The total number of patients discharged so far went up to 488 with the discharge of 47 people on Sunday, leaving 1,062 active cases.

The officials of the medical and family welfare department said AP has established two more new Covid-19 testing labs in Srikakulam and Prakasam districts, to increase the testing capacity.
