7 dead, 12 injured after van carrying marriage party falls into gorge at East Godavari

East Godavari : Tragedy struck the East Godavari district on Friday when a van carrying marriage party rolled down into a gorge leaving seven people dead and 12 others injured at Tantikonda Ghat under Gokavaram Mandal.
The incident took place when the van carrying guests was returning from the Sri Venkateswara Swami temple after solemnizing the marriage.
The driver of the vehicle allegedly lost control over the vehicle and hit the parapet wall before rolling down into the valley. Police suspect brake failure could have led to the mishap.
The deceased were identified as Yalla Sridevi, Yalla Naga Srilakshmi, Kambala Bhanu, S Prasad, P Narasimha Dora, S Gopalakrishna, and Ch Hemala Srilatha.
The injured were shifted to the hospital for treatment. The condition of the two injured is said to b critical.
Fortunately, the bride and groom were traveling in another vehicle.
Rajamahendravaram Urban District Superintendent of Police, Dr. Shemushi Bajpayee visited the accident site.
Police have registered a case and the investigation is on. The RTA officials also visited the spot and examined the ill-fated van to ascertain the exact reasons for the accident. The injured and deceased hailed from different parts of East Godavari district.
