A day after ‘encounter’, protestors demand justice for Adilabad gang-rape victim

Hyderabad: Another protest demanding justice for a rape victim rocked Adilabad district of Telangana. Scores took to the street, demanding justice on the line of Vet doctor Disha's case.

Three days before the gang-rape was reported in Hyderabad, a 30-year-old woman was raped and brutally murdered in Adilabad. The police took into custody three people, namely, Shaik Babu, Shaik Shaboddin and Shaik Makdum allegedly involved in the heinous crime.

The angry protestors demanded justice for the 30-year-old on the line of Disha's case as the slogan 'Goli maar do' echoed in Adilabad.

Belonging to Lingapur Mandal, Ellapatar Village, Khanapur Village, the thirty-year-old who was raped and murdered by three people were sent to a remand, said District SP Malla Reddy.

It was on November 24 when the victim was going to Ellapatar Village from Jainoor with her husband, Gopi at around 7:00 am on a bike.

He dropped her there to sell utensils and balloons and went to another village. He came back to the same place at around 2 pm and couldn't find her there.

On trying to contact her, her phone was switched off. Her husband immediately started searching for her and informed his friends in different villages to help him search his wife. As he couldn't find her by night, he lodged a missing complaint in Lingapur police station.

Police registered a case and started searching her to which they found a body in a pool of blood in the bushes on the way to Ellapataar Village at around 9:00 am on November 25.

The body was then identified as that of the victim with the investigation underway.

The police then got news of 3 people missing in Ellapatar Village amidst their investigation as they started finding the three missing people.

The three people were caught today near Adilabad X road and were identified as Shaik Babu (35), Shaik Shaboddin(30) and Shaikh Makdum (40).

On further investigation, the accused confessed that they saw the woman coming alone in Ellapatar and midway took her to the bushes forcefully and raped her. They further slit her throat and murdered her. The police further recorded the statements of the accused in front of witnesses. They also seized the knife with which they murdered her.

They also involved other witnesses in the research and collected scientific evidence and investigated the case with arms, said District SP Malla Reddy.

The physical evidence gathered in the case will be sent to the forensic lab and the investigation will be done at the earliest. We will try by all means to file a charge sheet within 60 days, Malla Reddy said.

He also said that the accused will be produced in front of the court within 6 months and will be punished. He also said that the accused will be booked under the Preventive Detention act.

SP Malla Reddy further said that to avoid such incidents in the future and create awareness among people by creating a band and Cordon and search by the police.

He also requested the people to inform the police about any suspects seen in the village.

Families of rape victims in Telangana demand ‘instant’ justice

The sharp criticism from the self-styled rights activists, notwithstanding, the ‘instance justice’ rendered by Telangana police to the killers of Disha, is being advocated as the best punishment to all perpetrators by family members of rape victims, from all over.

There is growing condemnation of the laidback attitude employed by police department and lawmakers, who have not been acting upon their complaints.

“We welcome the police encounter in connection with Disha murder case. But, in our case, we have been demanding justice for the past six months. So far, the police department has not taken any action against the inhuman act against the nine-month-old Srihitha”, said an anguished mother Rachana, a resident of Hanamkonda.

“We demand an immediate encounter of the accused, who has been lodged in jail for the last six months. Why is the government delaying justice in our case? The district court had ordered ‘be hanged till death’, but the High Court made it to life imprisonment. We demand a police encounter. Only then the soul of our kid rest in peace,” said Rachana.

Families of deceased children in Yadadri district are also baitingfor the blood of psycho-killer Srinivas Reddy. The Hajipur incident took place in Bommala Ramaram Mandal in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district. Srinivas Reddy raped three children and killed them. The police found three bodies of children in a nearby well. The families of the deceased are now demanding an immediate police encounter.

In another incident at Jadcharla, the family of the deceased girl is also demanding the encounter. One Sai trapped the girl on social media. After developing intimacy, he raped and killed her on August 29 on the outskirts of Jadcharla. Her parents are demanding that Sai be shot dead in a police encounter.

In a bizarre incident, three youngsters poured acid on a girl and stabbed her with a screwdriver for not agreeing to marry. The pathetic murder took place in 2017 but the police did not punish the main culprit Chandu and his two friends so far, said parents while demanding the government to encounter them.

Villagers of Dharmasagaram are demanding an encounter death to three youngsters, who raped a 62-year-old woman and killed her.
