Accused in Rs 500 cr fraud case in TN killed by wife in Moula Ali

Hyderabad: A 32-year-old woman Melanje Sukanya was arrested at Malkajgiri, in Hyderabad on Saturday, on charges of killing her husband Melanje John Prabhakaran(50). The couple belong to Tamil Nadu state and were together accused in the money back policy scheme racket that ran into Rs 500 Cr fraud and was unearthed by the Tamil Nadu CID in 2012. They were arrested in the past and were currently out on bail. They were also involved in as many as 32 cases in Tamil Nadu, the police found.

After the arrest, John Prabhakaran managed to get bail within a year's time, while Sukanya could not get bail and stayed put in the prison from 2013 to 2018. After being released from prison, she could not find her husband. Accordingly, she was staying with her relatives. Recently she came to know that John Prabhakaran was residing at Moula ali and came to meet him along with their children. But to her shock, she found that another woman was staying with him. He told her that she was his caretaker as he was suffering from paralysis.

He also demanded that she returned home. However, Sukanya managed to send the other woman out of their home as she wanted to stay with her husband. But he started harassing her and forced her to leave the city and go back home. As the torture increased, Sukanya decided to kill him, police sources said.

Following this, John Prabhakaran was found dead under suspicious circumstances at his rented home in Moula Ali on Wednesday. When police arrived at the spot, Sukanya refused to lodge a complaint and behaved in a suspicious manner. Police however registered a suspicious death case and found there was some foul play. Upon suspicion, Sukanya was questioned for her husband’s death during which she admitted to killing him. She confessed that unable to bear torture and also angry of the fact that he was forcing her to return home, for another woman, she killed him.
