Hyderabad: After two years of hunt, Nacharam police arrested two persons for allegedly cheating the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) at Hyderabad.

Identified as Kondaveeti Prabhakar Reddy and Chowla Ramesh Chandra Prasad, they had submitted a fake Service Tax document to the institute for reimbursement. They had worked for CCMB as housekeeping and Garden/Horticulture staff from 2013 to 2016.

CCMB is a premier research organization that has been actively involved in the fight against COVID 19.

According to Nacharam police, Controller of Administration at CCMB Jinde Shankar Rao had complained in May 2018 about irregularities in the service tax reimbursement claims submitted by the accused.

A case was registered under charges of cheating and other relevant sections of law.

Investigation had concluded that the accused were involved in cheating. Based on the evidence and other clues, the accused, who had been at large for more than two years, were arrested.

Police also recovered some documents and other materials. The duo had been remanded to judicial custody. Police are also probing if any other person was involved in the fraud.
