Air hostess Reetu Sareens death: Husband sentenced to life in prison

Hyderabad: A local court sentenced a man to life imprisonment on 18 September for murdering his air hostess wife in April 2015.

Reetu Sareen, 29, was an air hostess in the Jet Airways. She married Sachin Uppal in November 2013. In April 2015, Sachin came home drunk and when Reetu objected to him changing the TV channel, he started beating her. Reetu sustained a head injury and died. Sachin then tried to hide the evidence.

The woman's mother filed a police complaint after which the police filed an FIR against Sachin, his mother, and his friend Rakesh. Reetu's mother also alleged that Sachin had been demanding dowry and suspected Reetu of infidelity. She said that her family had given Rs. 16 lakh as dowry at the time of the marriage.

The police said that Sachin, who runs an electronic business in Koti, had incurred losses. He also suspected Reetu of cheating on him. Sachin and his mother harassed her and demanded an additional dowry of Rs.10 lakh, the police said. In November 2014, Reetu gave birth to a son but Sachin claimed that he was not his son and demanded the boy get a DNA test.

The Rangareddy court convicted Sachin on Friday and sentenced him to life imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs. 10,000. Rakesh and Sachin’s mother were acquitted in the case.
