Anantapur district receives heavy rainfall

Amaravati: Anantapur district witnessed heavy rainfall on Monday night leading to overnight flash floods in Kalayanadurgam, Madakasira, Guntakal and Yadiki Mandals. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday had forecasted heavy rains in isolated parts of coastal Andhra, Rayalseema and Yanam till Thursday.

In an All India Warning bulletin, IMD predicted heavy rainfall on Tuesday, "Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places over Assam, Meghalaya, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Konkan, Goa, Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Telangana and interior Karnataka".

According to IMD reports on Tuesday, Southwest monsoon has been active over coastal Andhra Prades and Yanam and Rayalaseema. Heavy rain occurred at isolated places in Prakasam district of coastal Andhra Pradesh and at a few places in Anantapur district of Rayalaseema on Monday night.

Heavy rain lashed many places over coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and Rayalaseema.

As per latest reports by IMD, Anantapur district recorded the highest rainfall with 40.6mm in the Rayalseema region followed by Kurnool with 9.8mm, Chitoor district at 7.8mm and Kadapa with 6.8mm.

IMD has also released a heavy rain warning for coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam. Heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places in all the districts of coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam for the next three days.
