Andhra Pradesh Assembly empowers Speaker to take action against errant members

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly has adopted a resolution empowering the Speaker to take necessary action against members who created a ruckus in the Assembly premises.

Reading out the resolution, Minister for Legislative Affairs Buggana Rajendranath said, ‘The House resolves to empower Speaker, Tammineni Sitaram to take appropriate action against the Legislators and others responsible for the unruly incident that took place in the Assembly premises.’

The resolution was adopted by the House by voice vote.

Earlier, after sensing the mood of the House, which was in favour of taking action against the Leader of Opposition for his unparliamentary utterances, and unruly behaviour in the premises and for using foul language against officials, the Speaker asked him to express regret for the incident failing which he has to go by the collective sense of the House.

The video clippings of the previous day scuffle were shown repeatedly in the House.

The Speaker said that the language was derogatory and unparliamentary and when emotions were running high it could be possible for slip of tongue.

“As a senior member and former Chief Minister it would be better if you express regret and take the issue to a dignified and logical conclusion,” he said.

When there was no proper reply from the Opposition benches, the resolution was read out and adopted, which enables the Speaker to take action against the errant members.

The Speaker directed the police officials to identify the outsiders present during the incident and take criminal action against them.

Meanwhile, those who spoke in favour of the resolution and demanded action against the TDP leader included Jakkampudi Raja, Gollapudi Babu Rao, Ambati Rambabu, Appalraju, and Vara Prasad, among others.
