Vijayawada: The COVID-19 death toll in Andhra Pradesh crossed 2,296 after it reported 93 deaths on 12 August. It is the eighth state in the country to record over 2,000 COVID deaths.

The state continued to witness a surge in positive cases and reported 9,597 new cases on Wednesday. The total number of COVID-positive cases now stands at 2,54,146. Meanwhile, 6,676 patients were discharged from various hospitals in the state in the past 24 hours.

Andhra Pradesh has 90,425 active cases as of now after 1,64,425 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals. The state’s positivity rate, that is the number of samples that test positive among the total samples tested, stood at 9.59 per cent.

Meanwhile, East Godavari district crossed the 35,000 marks after it reported 1,332 new cases in the past 24 hours. The district so far has seen 35,642 COVID-19 cases and now has 15,284 active cases. Chittoor reported 1,235 new cases, taking its total to 19,569. Also, West Godavari reported 929 new cases, Visakhapatnam 797, Guntur 762, Anantapur 781, Kadapa 364, and Nellore723.
