East Godavari: A 25-year-old student from East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh drowned in a pond at Kitchener in Waterloo of Canada.

identified as Sreenivasa Tejaswi Reddy Kolli, he was studying at Conestoga College in Waterloo. Hailing from Yeleswaram area in East Godavari district, he had gone to Canada in 2018.

Sreenivasa Tejaswi Reddy Kolli along with his friends had gone to the pond on July 29. Reddy’s friends were hanging out when one of them slipped into the pond. Reddy jumped into the water to rescue him, but in the process, he drowned to death.

Waterloo Regional Police said a man’s body was located in the beach area of Snyder’s Flats in Woolwich Township.

Police said the man’s body was recovered with the help of the Woolwich Fire Department. There is signage at Snyder's Flats that indicates swimming is not allowed. The 25-year-old man’s death has been deemed as “accidental or misadventure” by police.

Telugu Alliance of Canada (TACA) has expressed deep grief over the death of Tejaswi Reddy. He had finished his studies three months ago and was about to join a company.

TACA is making arrangements to send his mortal remains to India. TACA is in touch with his parents Srinivas and Madhavi Kolli.

“The circumstances surrounding his death are yet to be revealed. We will update you as soon as we have more information about his death”, TACA said.

More than ten youngsters including students and software professional from parts of Andhra Pradesh lost their lives after they met water grave in parts of the US in the past one decade.

Globally, drowning is the third-leading cause of unintentional injury death and ironically more people from Vizag lost their lives in the drowning tragedies in the US.
