Andhra records highest single-day spike of 605 new Covid-19 cases

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh on Friday reported the highest single-day spike of 605 new COVID-19 cases, while ten more patients succumbed to the virus. The number of Covid-19 cases has gone up to 11,489 and the death toll increased to 146 in the state.

A total of 22,305 samples were tested between Thursday 9 am and Friday 9 am in which 570 persons were from the Andhra Pradesh state, 34 from other states (returnees), and one foreign returnee tested positive, taking the cumulative total of 605 cases in a single day.

As on Thursday, a total of 7,91,624 samples were tested so far in the state of which 11,489 samples tested positive.

Four deaths each were recorded in Krishna and Kurnool districts while one death each were recorded in Guntur and Visakhaptnam districts on Friday.

On Friday, Kadapa district has recorded the highest number of cases with 133 followed by Anantapur and West Godavari districts with 79 cases each. Guntur district has reported 74 while Kurnool district has reported 60 cases.

The Kurnool district (the Covid-19 hotspot in the state) continues to top the chart in terms of highest Covid-19 cases in the state with 1,655 cases, followed by Krishna district with 1,199, Anantapur district with 1,159 cases and Guntur district with 1,032 cases. With 74 more fresh cases, the Guntur district tally touched 1,000 mark on Friday

A total of 208 patients (including 191 from state and 17 returnees recovered from the virus and discharged from the hospitals in the state in the past 24 hours. The active cases in the state now stand at 6,147 while the total number of people who got discharged from hospitals is 5,196.

On the death toll front, Krishna district continues to top the chart in terms of casualties with 49 deaths while Kurnool is closely following with 48 deaths. Guntur district has occupied third place in the chart with 17 deaths.

While Anantapur district reported 7 deaths, six deaths each were recorded in Chittoor and East Godavari districts and Nellore district reported four deaths. Vizag has reported 3 deaths.

Two deaths each were reported in Prakasam and Srikakulam districst while Kadapa and West Godavari districts reported one death each. So far Vizagnagaram district in the state have not reported any Covid-19 death.
