Another cop suspended for thrashing public amidst lockdown

Eluru: In another blatant display of power and arrogance, a sub-inspector of police indiscriminately beat up a youngster and his father at Khandavalli village under Peravali Mandal in West Godavari district.

The youngster had returned to his hometown from Dubai a few days ago. He had allegedly violated home quarantine and defied the lockdown norms.

Sub- Inspector of police, Peravali, Kiran Kumar on Thursday had received information about the youngster violating home quarantine. Kiran Kumar and his team had reached the village and beaten up the youngster and his family members and used filthy language.

After the video of the attack went viral on social media, Andhra Pradesh DGP Gowtham Sawang suspended the Sub-Inspector of police Kiran Kumar.

The DGP said that the police had to take the youngster to the isolation ward instead of beating him. He appealed to the police not to repeat such incidents.

Netizens expressed their dissent with how Andhra police was handling issues during the lockdown, with unnecessary use of brute force on unarmed citizens.

Mekathoti Sucharitha, the Minister of Home and Disaster Management, responded to the video on Twitter, saying that the action was taken against him and he was suspended.
