Another TSRTC employee ends life

Hyderabad: Yet another TSRTC employee lost his life in Telangana, owing to depression over the lack of payment of salaries for September 2019. 34-year-old Mohd Gaffar breathed his last on Tuesday, a few hours before the Telangana Chief Minister announced that they would have talks with the employees as per the court orders. Gaffar was working as a driver at the Nizamabad district and had gotten married a little over a year ago.

Hailing from Kamareddy district, Gaffar had been in service for close to a decade. He got married on August 2018. Since the strike began on October 5, he took an active part in the protests and its activities.

For the last three days, he became very dull and spoke only about the strike and the problems faced by the employees. He also stopped eating properly and interacting with family members. On Tuesday night around 9.30, he suddenly collapsed at home. He was rushed to the hospital and was then shifted to Medak for better treatment.

He passed away while he was shifted from Medak to Hyderabad.

The eldest of four siblings in the family, Gaffar got both his sisters married. He is survived by his wife, parents and a younger brother.

So far, two employees have committed suicide, while at least seven employees have died due to depression since the beginning of the strike.
