Anti-Corruption sleuths arrest Kothagudem thermal plant’s chief engineer

Hyderabad: Anti-Corruption Bureau officials arrested Karre Anandam, chief engineer of Kothagudem thermal power station, for demanding Rs 3 lakh as bribe.

In a trap laid by the ACB, Anandam, serving at the operations and maintenance section of the thermal station, was caught red-handed in his office while accepting a bribe from the complainant Yalagandula Lalitha Mohan, a contractor.

Anandam asked for the bribe to sanction purchase orders of material (spare parts) worth Rs 71,00,000 to the complainant’s firm — Vahini Engineering and Services — and his father’s company — Durga Devi Engineering works.

The officials recovered the bribe from the chief engineer. He was arrested and produced before the Special Court for ACB cases located in Hyderabad.
