Anti-terror trail: NIA raids five places in Coimbatore

Hyderabad: After terror threat to Coimbatore and parts of Tamil Nadu last week, security was heightened and checks were conducted at many places. Interestingly officials from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out raids at five locations in Coimbatore on Thursday.

A week ago, the TN police were alerted that six Lakshar-e-Taiba terrorists (LeT) men had entered the State with plans to disturb the peace. It is said that of the six, one was from Pakistan and the other five were Sri Lankan Muslims.

Reports say that during the raid on Thursday, NIA men seized laptops, mobile phones, SIM cards and pen drives. The searches took place at the residences of Umar Farooq, Sanabar Ali, Sameena Mubin, Muhammad Yasir and Sadam Hussain. These five persons have been under the NIA scanner for a while.

Ukkadam, Kaniamuthur, Bilal Nagar and Vincent Road also saw raids. Tamil Nadu police were also present during searches. The raids were conducted in connection with a case registered against them.

The NIA had already arrested one Muhammed Azharudheen (32), a Facebook friend of Zahran Hashim, who was the mastermind of the Easter Sunday bombings in Sri Lanka.
